5 Things Brands Can Do to Reach the Hearts of Moms
I
have mixed emotions about school starting up again. Goodbye long, leisurely,
non-routine, lazy summer days and hello jammed packed, adrenaline-filled crazy
days. Goodbye to kids complaining that they’re bored and have nothing to do and
hello routine filled-structured days, homework and early bedtime…yay!
Traditionally
this period marks the beginning of a new year for me, not January. This is when
my New Year’s resolutions are made…a fresh start, a new season, and an
opportunity to improve or change my ways. With back to school season in full gear,
I have a lot on my mind and planning to do…meal ideas, packing lunches, fashion
planning, afterschool activities, projects, homework help, parental obligations
at school and more. As a busy mom juggling a full time job
and home duties, I could use all the help I can get and brands that offer me
more than just their products or services go a long way.
Given that moms make the decisions on
80% of household purchases and are traditionally the parent making sure her
kids are prepared for school, brands that provide moms with the tools and
resources to save time and money, that make their lives easier, better and more
enjoyable win big time.
Below are 5 ways brands can reach the
hearts of moms:
1.
Sell us a great product
Who doesn’t love a great product? A
brand that is constantly evolving and innovating to adjust to our changing
needs and growing family is what will make us fall in love with your brand
while letting everyone know how great you are.
2.
Give us a great experience
A fantastic product or service goes a
much longer way when a great consumer experience happens at every touch point
of the process, whether online, at the store, on your cell, or on Facebook. Every interaction is a moment for your brand
to shine. In addition to discounts and coupons, we want tips and advice we can
actually use.
3.
Connect with us on an emotional level
Engage with us in a personal, authentic
and culturally relevant way. Our lives are shaped by vastly different
traditions and expectations and so understanding our mindset and what we care
about the most is critical. We want to know there is a real, caring human being
behind the brand voice.
4.
Provide the right message, at the right time, with the right medium
We’re all very busy, whether we work
outside of the home or are a stay-at-home mom. There are many micro-moments
throughout the day where we do and plan things and with a plethora of devices
at our hands, we may encounter your brand frequently. Be there for us in all
those “moments”, lay the red carpet for us and be
fully engaged and actively involved in
helping us solve our particular needs.
5.
Help us help others
Brands today must have a bigger purpose
other than selling their products and services. They must do things that
improve the lives of consumers and enhance quality of life. We appreciate
brands that give back to the community and make our world a better place for
our kids.
